Organized as a regular public health surveillance programme to track the epidemic and inform intervention, the third round of PRiSM was conducted from July 2011 to February 2012.

Fiji is classified as a low HIV prevalence country. The first cases of HIV were identified in 1989, and a cumulative 366 confirmed HIV cases were reported as of December 2010.

The annual HIV Sentinel Sero‐surveillance survey, the systematic and regular collection of information on the occurrence, distribution and trends of HIV infection and factors associated with the infection, has been carried out since 1992.
