Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Key Populations at Higher Risk of HIV in Sri Lanka 2017/18

HIV prevalence in Sri Lanka is less than 0.1%, characterized as a low-level epidemic, according to the National STD and AIDS Control program (NSACP). Data amongst key populations is required to evaluate and guide national responses, and currently minimal data is available for key populations in Sri Lanka. Two previous surveys, a behavioural surveillance survey undertaken in 2006/7 and an integrated biological surveillance survey (IBBS) in 2014/15, showed low HIV and syphilis prevalence across all key populations with presence of risk behaviour and low knowledge around HIV. 

Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Clients of Female Sex Workers (Truckers) in 22 Terai Highways Districts of Nepal: Round V - 2016

This is the fifth round of Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) survey conducted among 400 clients of sex workers (truckers) who drive trucks in 22 districts of the East–West highway of Nepal. Fieldwork for the survey was carried out from 13 February 2016 to 9 March 2016. The survey was undertaken primarily to track the trend of HIV prevalence among the truckers and to understand their sexual behaviors, practice of use of condom and their exposures to different HIV and AIDS prevention to care programme.

Integrated Bio-Behavioral Surveillance Survey on Street Involved Children and Youth in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal: Round I - 2016

This is the first round of the IBBS Survey conducted among street involved children and youths in three districts in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. This survey is a part of the National HIV Surveillance Plan (2012) and National HIV and AIDS Strategy (2011-2016). The first round of the survey was undertaken to determine the prevalence of HIV infections and to assess the sexual and/or injecting behaviors related to HIV among street involved children and youths in the Kathmandu Valley.

Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among People Who Inject Drugs (Male) in Western to Far Western Terai Highway Districts of Nepal: Round V - 2016

This is the fifth round of survey conducted among males who inject drugs in 7 highway districts in Terai from Western to Far-western region of Nepal. A total of 300 men were selected as the sample among the ones who met the criteria of the study population. The study found that there is a prevalence of HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in the study population.

Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Men who have Sex with Men and Transgender People in Terai Highway Districts of Nepal: Round I - 2016

This is the first round IBBS survey among MSM/TG conducted in eight districts of Terai Highway in Nepal and field work conducted by National Institute for Development and Research (NIDR). The eight districts namely Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari (Eastern Terai), Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilbastu (Western Terai), Kailali and Kanchanpur (Far-western Terai) were purposively selected on the basis of previous round of size estimation, consultation with relevant stakeholders during the formative assessment.

Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Wives of Migrants in Four Districts of Far-Western Nepal: Round III - 2018

The report is the third round of the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey (IBBS) among the wives of migrant labourers in Province 7 (Far-Western) of Nepal. The survey is based on the data of 400 wives of those migrant labourers in the four districts (Achham, Doti, Kanchanpur, and Kailali) who temporarily migrate or used to migrate to India to work as labourers.

Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Men who have Sex with Men and Transgender in Tarai Highway Districts of Nepal: Round II - 2018

This is the second round of Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) survey among MSM/TG conducted in eight districts of Tarai Highway Districts in Nepal. The primary objectives of the IBBS surveys were: to determine the prevalence and trend of HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia Trachomatis (CT), Neisseria Gonorrhoea (NG) and associated HIV-related risk behaviors among MSM/TG, collect information related to socio-demographic characteristics and explore the association between the risk behaviors and HIV and other specific STIs among MSM/TG population.

Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey among Male Labour Migrants in Six Eastern Districts of Nepal: Round I - 2018

This is the first round of the IBBS survey conducted among MLM in six eastern districts (Illam, Panchthar, Dhankuta, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts) of Nepal. The first round of survey was undertaken to assess the burden of HIV, ither STI prevalence, and its associated factors. This baseline data will also help to analyye trends of HIV prevalence and its associated factors in future.
