Analysis of Community Treatment Observatory Data for HIV and Hepatitis C Virus Services in India and Indonesia

amfAR’s TREAT Asia program and three partner organizations initiated two Community Treatment Observatories (CTOs) to assess availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of services for HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) in India and Indonesia. It is hoped that the resulting analysis, available here, will help inform and advance advocacy priorities aimed at improving and expanding access to HIV and HCV services in the two countries.

The HIV/AIDS pandemic continues to have a devastating, though often invisible, impact on gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) around the world. In low and middle-income countries, MSM are 19 times more likely to be living with HIV than people in the general population and they represent an estimated 10 percent of new infections each year. Yet for decades the epidemic among MSM was officially ignored by governments, donors, and whole societies.
