Fact Sheets - Released in 2013

The adult HIV prevalence at the national level has continued its steady decline from an estimated level of 0.41% in 2001 through 0.35% in 2006 to 0.27% in 2011. Similar consistent declines are noted among both men and women at the national level. Declining trends in adult HIV prevalence are sustained in all the high prevalence states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Nagaland, and Tamil Nadu) and other states such as Mizoram and Goa. However, some states in the North such as Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand, some in the North West region including Punjab, Chandigarh, and Delhi, and some low prevalence states of North East including Assam have shown rising trends in adult HIV prevalence.
