The objectives of this survey are to describe the socio-demographic profile of the study sample, to ascertain the current knowledge of HIV/AIDS, to determine attitudes on HIV/AIDS, to describe the prevailing sexual practices, to compare the results with the baseline (Pre-intervention KAP survey) findings, to evaluate the process of the plantation sector HIV prevention project.

The HIV surveillance system in Hong Kong comprises 5 main programmes to provide a detailed description of the local HIV/AIDS situation. They are (a) voluntary HIV/AIDS case-based reporting; (b) HIV prevalence surveys; (c) sexually transmitted infections (STI) caseload statistics; (d) behavioral studies; and (e) HIV-1 genotyping studies. The data is collected, analyzed and disseminated regularly by the surveillance team of Special Preventive Programme (SPP), Centre for Health Protection (CHP), Department of Health (DH). At present, the latest HIV/AIDS statistics are released at quarterly intervals at press media briefings and in electronic format (http://www.aids.gov.hk). Data from various sources are compiled annually and released in this report.

Results from the HIV/STI Integrated Biologic and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) Survey Democratic Republic of Timor Leste 2011. Ministry of Health, HIV/STI Unit (2012)

The MoH HIV/STI unit conducted active surveillance for select STIs (syphilis, Chlamydia, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C) and HIV rapid testing in 5 districts of Timor-Leste: Covalima, Oecusse, Bobonaro, Dili, and Baucau. The HIV/STI unit also assessed the behavioral characteristics of specific high-risk target groups in those districts: female sex workers (FSW), males who have sex with other males (MSM), and uniformed personnel (UP). These data will help the HIV/STI program quantify HIV/STI prevalence in Timor-Leste and improve its programs.

Characteristics of the Epidemic

–The first HIV case was identified in 1990 and the first AIDS case was in 1993
–The peak of the HIV prevalence is believed to be around 1998-1999
–Female commercial sex worker group was hard hit in the early stage of the epidemic
–The main mode of transmission is unprotected heterosexual intercourse.
–Groups that are believed to be vulnerable to HIV are; female entertainment worker, Men who have sex with men, drug user and those who have multiple sexual partners

This report provides biological and behavioral information on HIV among mine workers in Balochistan from a survey conducted in September 2011 in the mining areas of Muslim Bagh, Sorange and Mach. The purpose of the study was to collect, analyze and disseminate accurate information on the prevalence of key risk behaviors and of HIV among mine workers in order to deliver sustained and effective HIV prevention,treatment care and support services. A cross-sectional behavioral and biological survey was conducted among this group. Data were gathered from mine workers using a structured questionnaire.

The 2011 Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance (IBBS) was conducted to obtain a picture of the magnitude of the problems, risk factors, knowledge and program scope, with the aim of understanding the dynamics of the HIV epidemic in Indonesia. The 2011 IBBS was conducted in 23 cities/regencies in 11 provinces, with most of the cities/regencies selected being those also surveyed in the 2007 IBBS.

 The Integrated Behavioural and Biological Assessment (IBBA) Round one carried out in the years 2005-07 emerged as a nationally important source of data for the revision of persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) estimation in India along with data from the HIV Sentinel Surveillance (HSS) and the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3).

Trafficking of Fishermen in Thailand. Robertson P. (2011)

The objective of this report is to provide a better understanding of the recruitment, living and working conditions of fishermen and the extent of exploitation and abuse in the Thai fishing sector. The report reviews the legislative and regulatory framework governing the fishing sector and the recruitment of fishermen and its implementation, highlighting certain gaps which enable traffickers to operate in the sector and lead to abusive labour conditions. The report also examines protection and support services accessible by victims of trafficking.
