3rd national strategic plan for hiv and aids response NSP 2011 2015

The government of Bangladesh respond to HIV and AIDS from the first case detected in 1989, GOB formed NAC, TAC and the AIDS policy. There are several policy documents developed to guide the national HIV and AIDS Program intervention. The goal of the 3rd national strategic plan for HIV and AIDS Response 2011-2015 is, to minimise the spread of HIV and minimize the impact of AIDS on the individual, family, community, and society. The National AIDS/STD Programme (NASP) is one of the wings of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW) responsible for coordinating with all stakeholders and development partners involved in HIV/AIDS programme activities throughout the country.

FHI and USAID (2001) This study was carried out among female sex workers in Kathmandu valley from March to August 2001 to determine the prevalence of HIV and syphilis and also to examine behavioral attitudes related to sexually transmitted disease.

Mapping Key Populations for HIV Prevention in Sri Lanka. National STD/AIDS Control Programme, Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition (2010)

Mapping of most-at-risk populations in Sri Lanka, a precursor to effective prevention interventions, was conducted by the National STI/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP), Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition (MoHN), Sri Lanka, through financial assistance from the World Bank, UNAIDS and UNFPA. Technical support for the work was provided by the Centre for Global Public Health, University of Manitoba.

Is the HIV Burden in India Being Overestimated?  Dandona L, Lakshmi V, Kumar GA, et al (2006) The HIV burden estimate for India has a very wide plausibility range. A recent population-based study in a south Indian district demonstrated that the official method used in India to estimate HIV burden in the population, which directly extrapolates annual sentinel surveillance data from large public sector antenatal and sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinics, led to a 2–3 times higher estimate than that based on population-based data.

The fourth round of the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) surveys among female sex workers (FSWs) covered a sample of 938 respondents in Kathmandu valley – Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts (n=593) and Pokhara valley (n=345), henceforth, referred to as Kathmandu and Pokhara.

IBBS Survey among Wives of Migrants in Four Districts of Far-Western Nepal. FHI, New Era and Intrepid Nepal (2010) This report presents the findings from the second round of the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance Survey (IBBS) among the wives of migrant laborers in Achham, Doti, Kanchanpur, and Kailali districts of Far-West Nepal. This survey collected data from 600 spouses of those migrant laborers who temporarily migrate or have migrated to India to work as laborers. The survey measured the prevalence of HIV among the study population. It also looked at multiple factors associated with risks for HIV infection; including condom use; sexual behavior; knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs); STI treatment history; exposure to HIV/AIDS awareness messages and programs; and alcohol/drug use habits.

independent_review As part of efforts to tackle the HIV epidemic, the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) has endorsed a National Strategic Plan (NSP) for HIV and AIDS, 2006-2010. A planning exercise for the implementation of this plan is undertaken each year which aims to bring stakeholders together with the goal of developing an approved GoPNG HIV Development Budget and Plan for the coming year, containing details of funded activities to support NSP implementation.
