AMTP IV Mid term Assessment 2008

The AIDS Medium Term Plan IV of the Philippines was conceptualized and prepared through a robust and wide consultative process which was inclusive of civil society, different agencies of the government, multi lateral and bilateral agencies as well as corporates. The period of this plan is from 2005 to 2010. The Philippine National AIDS Council is responsible for overseeing the program implementation plan of the country. In this regard, the PNAC commissioned a mid term assessment of the plan in order to draw lessons from the first half of the plan, and to apply these in the second half of the plan i.e. 2009 and 2010. The assessment will also look into the performance of the council, and suggest improvements for the same.

Of Transgender and Sin in Asia. Winter S (2006) I was born male and identify as one. Until recently I hadn't asked myself why I had turned out this way. Yet many transpeople I know have long asked this question of themselves. What's more, there is a small army of researchers trying to uncover answers to the same question. Relatively few seem interested in going up to a trans person and simply asking him or her 'Why do you think you turned out this way?

Estimates of Adults Living with HIV in the Philippines 2007

Since the start of HIV serologic surveillance in 1993, the country’s epidemic is described
as low and slow due to the fact that the national aggregate’s prevalence has never
gone beyond one percent. However, behavioral surveillance is showing that risk behaviors are high among the most-at-risk population. The 2007 IHBSS showed that 52% of IDUs shared needles and syringes the last time they injected. The same survey showed that condom use in different populations varied : 71% for establishment-based female sex workers, 59% for freelance female sex workers, 33% for male clients of female sex workers, 24% for injecting drug users and 42% during anal sex among MSM. The highlight of the survey was the finding that interaction among and between the risk populations and their low risk sex partners exists.

Gender Differences in KAP Related to HIV/AIDS among Freshmen in Afghan University. Mansoor AB, Fungladda W, Kaewkungwal J, et al (2008)

Violence against women and their children (VAWC) occurring in intimate partner
relationships in domestic situations is a serious problem. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that half of the women who died from homicide were killed by their current or former husbands and partners. They succumbed to gunshot wounds, burns, hemorrhages and other physical injuries resulting from various forms of abuse. In the Philippines, the extent of VAWC can be gleaned from the varying trends in the number of general violence against women (VAW) cases from different government agencies. The number of VAW cases reported to the police increased seven-fold from 1,100 in 1996 to 7,383 in 2004.
