In January 2013, there were 380 new HIV Ab sero-positive individuals confirmed by the STD/AIDS Cooperative Central Laboratory (SACCL) and reported to the HIV and AIDS Registry. This was 79% higher compared to the same period last year (n=212 in 2012).

In December 2012, there were 293 new HIV Absero-positive individuals confirmed by the STD/AIDS Cooperative Central Laboratory (SACCL) and reported to the HIV and AIDS Registry (Table 1). This was 9% higher compared to the same period last year (n=268 in 2011)

In 2011, a total of 461 Singapore residents were newly reported to have HIV infection, an increase of 4.5% compared to 441 cases in 2010 (Table 6.1). This brings the cumulative total number of HIV/AIDS infections among residents since the first case was diagnosed in 1985 to 5,306.

The adult HIV prevalence at national level has continued its steady decline from 0.41% in 2000 through 0.36% in 2006 to 0.31% in 2009. All the six high prevalence states show declining trend. However, the low prevalence states of Assam, Chandigarh, Orissa, Kerala, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya show rising trends in the last four years.
